Jed Farr
Scottish Western Districts 2023
9/9, 322.5kg total @ U59kg Jnr, First Place @ U59kg Class
S: 95/105/112.5 (+2.5kg PB)
B: 60/70/75 (Matched Training PB)
D: 115/125/135 (Matched Training PB)
Really pleased for Jed and so proud of him for taking the leap and simply entering his first comp let alone doing so well.
When we started I don’t think he believed he’d step on a platform this quick for the usual thought of ‘I won’t be strong enough’ as everyone does.
Everything went to plan and I let Jed have final say on his last attempts. In all honesty we left a good bit in the tank. Particularly with squat and bench matching PB’s at lower RPE’s. The final deadlift looked like an opener.
But he wanted to be conservative, go 9/9, get a perfect performance and have a total to build on and he did just that!
Again a successful comp is down to what the lifter wants. If he is happy then so am I.
He translated what we did in training to the platform perfectly.
From where we started to this point in just 9 Weeks is massive, before coaching his lifts were at:
Squat: 80kg x 5

Bench: 60 x 4kg Touch and Go

Deadlift: 115kg x 4
To bring up all his lifts this much AND now train to such a technically high standard as a lifter will only bring him great success in the future. as we look towards Scottish Juniors in September.

Scottish Junior Championships 2023
6 months on and it was time for Scottish Juniors. Jed had been making really great progress on his lifts in that time and we knew we were on for a big total PB and potentially a podium placing.

We came out with:

S: 122.5kg (+10kg)
B: 75kg (matched PB)
D: 152.5kg (+17.5kg PB)

9/9, 350kg Total (+27.5kg) @ U59kg Junior, 1st Place in his class.

Another perfect 9/9 day for Jed hitting a huge Comp PB and taking home first place in the U59kg Junior Class only weighing in at about 55.5kg which is lighter than his first comp (unintentional).
There was definitely some more in the tank on Bench and Deadlift but we done the job we needed to.
Bench was probably the only frustrating lift on the day. In training we had managed to hit a decent 77.5kg prior to the peak, but then Bench became a struggle the closer we got to competition. His second actually moved worse than his 75kg third but we didn't want to take a risk. Still a good call building the total.

Overall nothing more we could've asked for as his last comp as a junior. We now have our sights on next year and aiming for the big 400kg total as an U59.
