The Athlete

Despite only competing for the first time at the age of 21 I have been seriously training since I was roughly 16 years old. After I broke my leg in a football match it made me come to the realisation that I wasn’t going to make it (such a standard story I know). I recovered, got a membership to my local leisure centre gym and the rest is history.

Throughout University my love for Powerlifting style training grew more and more, strength became the main focus for my training and I just wanted to be better and better.

I competed for the first time in January 2020 completing a 607.5kg total with a 230kg Squat, 135kg Bench and 242.5kg Deadlift winning me first place in the Scottish Eastern Districts @ U93kg. I got my first coach for the 7 week prep and it was one of the most valuable experiences of my life.

Of course as we all know in the months to come Covid-19 hit. We were all resided to training at home. I was fortunate enough to have the money and space to make a decent enough gym in my mums garage. I managed to train consistently during that time with my second and current coach. I made great progress. My second competition came a year later in the Scottish Summer Open 2021.
After a year away from the platform I made massive progress hitting a 667.5kg total with a 250kg Squat, 157.5kg Bench and 260kg Deadlift. Coming second in the U93kg class by 5kg. At the time I had broken the U93kg Scottish Junior Squat and total record which was massive.

Sadly once more in 2021 lockdowns followed so I had to wait another year to get back onto the platform with the Scottish Classic Championships in 2022.
The only goal I had in mind was hitting a 700kg total and breaking into that next level.

I came up short hitting 690kg with 262.5kg Squat, 160kg Bench and a 267.5kg Deadlift @ U93kg. It was still a big Comp PB and second place in Scotland, but I failed every third attempt to miss out on my goal.

Despite the disappointment I had qualified to compete at my first international later that year in December. The Commonwealth Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.
To be able to represent Scotland in only my 4th Competition on the other side of the world was a very proud moment, but I knew that I had to perform.

Achieving a perfect 9/9 performance with 27 white lights I achieved
my goal 700kg total with a 265kg Squat, 160kg Bench and 275kg Deadlift.
Coming 5th place out of 13 high level lifters from all over the world.
Now I am living in Australia planning my next competition to beat that total.

The Coach
Realising very young that training was my passion I completed my PT qualifications at 18 and started working in the fitness industry. Over 6 years of experience both online and in person have brought me to now, where Powerlifting is a huge part of my life.

Initially starting out and having great success as general population transformation coach under my first brand M.A.D Fitness. However, as I became a better Powerlifter my reputation and niche of clientele naturally changed towards competitive Powerlifters. Taking my first athlete to the platform in January 2021 and many more since.
Powerlifting is more than just my job or my hobby, it is my whole life. I love it, adore it and want to bring you that same passion. This is why I have created Smith Strength & Power to firmly plant myself in the Powerlifting space because that's where I want to be. I want to make a statement.
