After just 8 months of training and 4 months of proper coaching Dylan entered his first comp.
When we first started 4 months ago his lifts were at:
- 120kg High Squat
- 80kg Touch and Go Bench
- 160kg Deadlift
Squat, despite going 2/3 we were happy with getting 140kg. When we started working together 140kg was a bit of a dream in the timeframe but they really came together in prep. 145kg was a safe call for the third with Dylan hitting it in training but a tight depth call got him. Very hard lines especially with how it moved but a lesson learned. Still a 20kg PB and to comp standard depth from where we started.
Bench, again not a bad result but just tough to take after managing the 87.5kg but getting called for downward movement on his third. 82.5kg was very very solid and just 2.5kg less than his training best but 2.5kg than his best when we started and to comp standard.
Deadlifts, let’s just say these have been a weird one for Dylan and myself. 155kg moved so well so we went safe with 162.5kg for the third but his energy seemed shot at this point. Definitely not reflective of what Dylan can do with him managing 165kg x 2 in training. Deadlifts need some work technically and programming wise to bring Dylan’s best which is something we will figure out together (a shot at sumo seems on the cards).
One final point to add is that as you can see Dylan has underwent a HUGE physical transformation in this proces. We took a break from fat loss for the peak for performance but now we will be back to it to come in as a stronger, leaner and more jacked U74kg for his next comp.
